ABOUT SILICA SAND
SILICA is the 2nd most abundant element on earth’s crust, commonly found in its oxidized form as Silicon Dioxide (SiO2).
GFR Silica identified the silica sand shortage in the Asia-Pacific region as a unique opportunity for us. The shortage, which is predicted to worsen with dwindling local supplies and increasing demand, has caused an increase in price. The Asia-Pacific region accounts for 46.8% of global demand for silica sand and is predicted to grow at a CAGR of 8.1% in year 2021 to year 2025 according to the market research report- Silica Market by Research Reports World.
Silica Rising In Demand
GFR Silica and its Malaysian Silica Sand Projects are well-positioned to meet this rising demand in the Asia-Pacific markets for silica sand.
We work with our customers across 4 core sectors in 3 strategic regions, enabling them to:
-
Maximize their return on investment
-
Minimize environmental impact
-
Gain a significant competitive advantage in their market.

Feeding & Screening
offers both vibrating feeders and vibrating screens for feeding and screening the crushed silica sand or natural sand, as well as scalping off the coarse waste particles. And the smaller sand particles fall through the screen media to be further processed.
Magnetic Separation
Impurity minerals in silica sand, such as limonite, tourmaline, hematite and biotite, can be removed only by magnetic separation. In silica sand production, the wet high intensity magnetic separator of about 13000 gauss is mostly used for separation.
Due to the different impurities in silica sand, different magnetic separator should be selected according to the actual production, and even multiple magnetic separation should be carried out.
Drying & Sizing
After preliminary dewatering, will need to further dry and dewater silica sand to <7%, then sieve out requested size (20, 40 ,70, 140 mesh etc.). Usually use a dryer and precision vibrating screens to get final products that meet the granularity requirements.
One Stop Service
One-stop service, from raw quartz processing to finished product packaging.
Washing & Dewatering
Silica sand must be clean to meet the users' specifications. FUMA sand washing machine does a good job here, the machine combine washing, dewatering and fines recovery in one unit which greatly improve silica sand washing plant design efficiency.
