ABOUT BALL CLAY

Ball clay {Al2Si2O5(OH)4} is a rare mineral found in very few places around the world.  Its name comes from the early methods of mining when specialized hand tools were used to extract the clay in  cube shapes. The corners were knocked when handling, transporting and storage of these cubes, and it became rounded and ‘ball’ shaped. It also is sometimes referred to as plastic clay.

 BALL CLAY MINING

Ball clays can be used in variety ways, but mostly being a vital component in ceramic manufacturing. Kaolin can produce the whiteness when it is heated to make ceramic, but using it alone causes the ceramic brittle and weak. Hence, Ball Clay must be mixed to produce a workable, malleable raw material.

As a result of their sedimentary origin, raw ball clays can have many different colours.  However, the ceramic industry value them by their whiteness, which are affected by the FE level and other coloring/fluxing oxides within the clay.

BALL CLAY EXPORT

In Malaysia, it was predicted that there were 559 million tons of ball clay reserves, and we were proud to be one of the Ball Clay supplier in Malaysia with several overseas clients. Our ball clay site is located at Terong, Perak which was less than 80 kilometers away from our export jetty, Lumut port.
